Windows Home Server, code-named Quattro, is a home server operating system from Microsoft. Announced on 7 January 2007, at the Consumer Electronics Show by Bill Gates, Windows Home Server is intended to be a solution for homes with multiple connected PCs to offer file sharing, automated backups, and remote access. Apr 10, 2019 Hello: I'm ready to retire my WHS11 due to its age and issues with some of the new disk structures. I was told that Windows Server 2016 or 2019 Essentials will perform the same backup/restore processes as WHS11. Does anyone have experience with that? I'm a VBA programmer, not a server. Windows Server Essentials 2016, or Windows Server 2016 with. I bought a PC with WHS-2011 pre-installed to use as a wireless backup system for two laptops and a separate business PC. It worked ok for nearly 2 years, (I thought), until the business PC failed. I thought that I could just replace the business PC and reinstate from the home server PC.
